Welcome to Colden House
For nearly ninety years, Colden House has stood at the forefront of evidence-based policy research. Founded in 1936, we continue to deliver rigorous analysis and actionable insight to policymakers, governments, and institutions worldwide.
Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to distil data into information, information into intelligence, and intelligence into truth. In an age of complexity, we believe that rigorous measurement and clear-eyed analysis remain the surest guides to better policy outcomes.
Today, Colden House works actively and closely with policy makers across government, the private sector, and civil society. We are proud to be an established and respected institution—dare we say, a comfort—in uncertain times.
About Us
Colden House was founded in September 1936 by Tenley Colden, an economist at the Board of Trade who believed that rigorous measurement could bring clarity to public policy. In the interwar years—mass unemployment still felt, international tensions rising—Colden saw that data could illuminate the path forward.
The war that followed proved him right in ways he had not anticipated. Colden's work on economic mobilisation brought him into contact with pioneering efforts in computation and analysis. He returned transformed, convinced that the future belonged to those who could harness information at scale.
Over the decades, Colden House has evolved through successive phases: supporting post-war reconstruction, advising newly independent nations, contributing to democratic transitions, and embracing modern evidence-based methodologies. Through each pivot, our core mission has remained constant: seizing truth to drive policy.
The organisation carries all the wins and scars of the ages. We have come of age.
